Greetings, and welcome to The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week, the podcast companion to The End, the listener-focused directory and weekly newsletter that shines a light back on audio fiction shows after they've reached the finale of a season or the conclusion of the series. I am your host and the curator of The End, Evo Terra.

Before we start… I’m thinking about either stopping or totally overhauling this companion podcast for The End. I’m just… not happy with it. I assembled the first one in haste and have kept the format. But I’m just not sure it’s all that important. If you feel differently, or you have an idea of how to make this better—perhaps more than just a companion podcast—do let me know. Email me at updates@theend.fyi

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End—the 77th—highlighted 6 shows in either the Recently Completed Series or Recent Season Finales sections… and 3 of them wrapped in the last few days.

  • 🦅🐏🐻🐺 • Birds of Empire, a dramatized post-apocalyptic fantasy series from Jason Lew & QCODE, posted the Season 2 finale on the 22nd of February. I have this one on my list and am looking forward to the 14 hours it’ll take me to listen to the 28 episodes of the first 2 seasons. Yes, I’ll listen to Season 1 again.
  • 🔍🍭🔪 • The Land Whale Murders, a dramatized and narrated historic satirical comedy series from Roi Gold Productions & Fable & Folly, posted the Season 2 finale on the 21st of February. You can listen to the 26 current episodes in about 11 and a half hours.
  • 👽🔒🚀 • Master!: Planet Doom, a dramatized scifi series from Big Finish, was posted as complete on 20 Feb 2024. You’ll need about three and a half hours to enjoy this tale from the Doctor Who universe.
  • And be sure to listen to the end of the audio file to hear trailers or snippets for these shows.

This Week

With every issue, I make two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As with all things in life, YMMV.

  • 😱💥😮 • My first recommendation is The Lion's Den, a narrated soulful narco-thriller (think David Ayer) from Voyage Media. It's the story of a narco who found God but couldn't escape the cartel and went undercover for the DEA to take them down. If you like hard-hitting crime stories that thrust you into the action, this short show may be just right for you. Here’s the trailer: [trailer plays] The Lion's Den is complete, and you’ll need less than 2 hours to listen to all 4 episodes.

  • 🗽👷‍♂️🧐 • My next recommendation is Burning Gotham, a dramatized historical fiction from The WallBreakers. This hard-hitting work of historical fiction is fabulous! Immersive, well-produced, and always gripping! Listen to the trailer for a taste: [trailer plays] Burning Gotham is, best I can tell, a complete series. And it’s a quick listen, letting you enjoy the 8 episodes in about an hour and a half.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has 7 entries in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, and 2 of them start up again in the next few days.

Season 5 of Mission Rejected, a dramatized action spy comedy from The Porch Room, starts on 23 Feb 2024. Catch up with the current 48 episodes in 34 and a half hours.

Season 2 of Tales of the ZugarouX, a narrated/dramatized suspensful scifi series from Nel Zim, starts on 29 Feb 2024. Catch up with the current 14 episodes in about three and a half hours.

And as a reminder, trailers or snippets for those 2 shows and the 3 I mentioned at the top of the episode are coming your way right after I say…

And that’s all for this episode of The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week. For these and the other audio fiction shows featured, highlighted, and coming soon that were part of the 77th issue of The End, including all sorts of new and exciting easy ways to listen, and something very new called Collections please visit TheEnd.fyi. I’m Evo Terra. Thanks for listening.
