Greetings, and welcome to The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week, the podcast companion to The End, the weekly newsletter that shines a light back on audio fiction shows after they've reached the finale of a season or the conclusion of the series. I am your host and the curator of The End, Evo Terra.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Last Week

The most recent issue of The End—the 49th—highlighted 8 shows in the Season Finales & Finished Series section, and 5 of them wrapped in the last few days.

  • 👩🏿‍💻💜🤖 • Life With LEO(h), a romantic comedy from Octavia Bray & Atypical Artists, posted the final episode of the entire series on August 9th. It was created and directed by Black women and features a primarily people of color cast as well as many queer characters. Give yourself about 7 hours to listen to the 18 episodes from both seasons.
  • ♗♕ ♖ • New West - Hill Country, a narrated post-apocalyptic western from Seamus John, posted the season 1 finale on August 8th. You’ll need about 5 hours to listen to the 19 current episodes of this self-funded independent production. Season 2 is slated for February 2024.
  • 🤠 ☠️🏺 • Skulls and Treasure, a dramatized adventure from Amy Thorstenson & Littlest Viking Productions, also posted its final episode on August 8th. This complete story is both a love letter to the Indiana Jones franchise and also a re-examination of the franchise for the 21st century. Listen to the whole thing—only 4 episodes—in three and a half hours.
  • 🛰️📓😟 • The Last Echoes, a dramatized scifi from Trace Callahan & The Shadow Network, posted the Season 1 finale on August 7th. You’ll only need an hour and a half to listen to the 8 episodes of the 1st season, and Season 2 is planned for next year.
  • 🏞️🦄🧚 • Residents of Proserpina Park, a dramatized urban fantasy comedy from Angela Yih, posted the finale of the 3rd season on August 7th. This show has women of color, Asian American Pacific Islanders, and Queer representation. The first three seasons take almost 8 hours to enjoy, and Season 4 should come out in March of 2024.
  • Listen to the end of this audio file to hear the trailers or episode snippets for these 5 shows.

This Week

With every issue, I make two recommendations for great audio fiction I personally love. As with all things in life, YMMV.

  • 🪨🩸🔒 • My first recommendation is for The Iron Anthology, a dramatized multigenre anthology from Via Brooklyn. I found it an excellent example of a "radio play" and a credit to the medium. Here’s a snippet from the first episode. [snippet plays] The Iron Anthology is a complete tale, giving you over 2 hours of entertainment across the 3 episodes of the show.

  • 🧍🏿‍♀️👁🕴 • My second recommendation is for Liars & Leeches, a dramatized supernatural horror series from Hemlock Creek Productions. I really enjoyed this slow-burn suspense thriller that keeps you guessing—and kept me listening all the way to the end. Here’s the trailer: [trailer plays] Liars & Leeches has 10 episodes in the first season, delivering over 4 hours of entertainment. There will be a Season two sometime next year.

Next Week

The latest issue of The End has 1 entry in the New Seasons Coming Soon section, but it doesn’t start next week, so I’ll save it. Instead, I’ll once again remind you that listener-slash-reader support options are available for The End. If you love what you're listening to each week and credit The End for some of that, go to TheEnd.fyi/support and help me out.

And that’s all for this episode of The End Last Week, This Week, and Next Week. For these and the other audio fiction shows featured, highlighted, and coming soon that were included in the 49th issue of The End, including links to listen to the shows mentioned in this episode, please visit TheEnd.fyi.

I’m Evo Terra. Thanks for listening.
