The immune system is now a key tool in developing personalized targeted therapies against many types of cancer. With an extensive background in immunology in the context of human disease, Philip Liu, Ph.D., joins BioChat to discuss a promising new drug against bladder cancer, and his unique career path towards this latest achievement.

Phil and Kin talk about our shared love of science, albeit with different career paths and methodologies to promote scientific breakthroughs, and advice for aspiring biomedical researchers. We also discuss the challenges in obtaining research funding and how the funding mechanism needs to adapt to continue attracting bright minds to academia to train the next generation of great scientists. Phil also asks what it is Kin actually does here!

Of course, we also talk about the exciting new IL-15-based therapy developed by Phil's company, ImmunityBio, as they have very promising results and are working towards clinical trials.

Please feel free to visit us at www.abclonal.com, read our blog posts here, including a look at the study of IL-15 as an immunotherapy, and check out our Doctor Beaker page for fun activities!
