As soon as I heard her slowly twisting the shaker at the beginning of the recording, I knew this was going to be something special. Recorded in the comfort of her apartment, Martina has been practicing sound arts for many years and her mastery of skills can be heard in this recording. For this recording, she played her first collection of singing bowls. Her intimate knowledge of their voices was like a conversation between old friends. She begins chanting with overtone singing which softens the rigid, precise tones of the bowls. There is this embracing texture to the recordings that is owed to how the space reflects the tones. It has a comfortable air to them that is not overwhelming, nor too empty. More information here: http://www.sbsemergence.com
