Life is short. ? Far too short to waste time being overly concerned about what others may think of us. And the strongest among us seem to know that best, clinging to an immovable sense of self worth and self awareness - even when with all their personal strength, every ounce thereof is willed into just prolonging their existence one more day.
Because when one’s own life is just another item in an inventory list of commodities belonging to one’s oppressor, staring death dead in the eye may be the best way to meet it on one’s own terms.
And when his name was called, John Henry didn’t blink.

Since the very beginning of it, the history of man has been fraught with the fear of powerful women.
Even when the power in question had to be exaggerated to justify its threat, and the existence thereof directly contradicted the circumstances of the woman who would wield it.
It’s almost as if being a strong woman with unique abilities and a voice she’s not afraid to use is an inherent threat to some. And, as such, it’s historically been seen as something somewhere between inappropriate and flat-out profane.
Some have even referred to such women... as witches.
