A Heart-Centered Approach to Cultivating Wellness Lourdes Lorenz, DHA(c), MSN-IH, NEA-BC, AHN-BC Individuals and healthcare providers now recognize that health is not just the absence of illness. In the United States, approximately 75 % of physician office visits are for stress related problems, and the most costly health related expenditures are for stress-related disorders. Nearly 50% of Americans believe that stress is damaging their health, relationships, and productivity. This educational activity will examine the impact of stress on wellness and will provide strategies to build stress hardiness. This presentation examines the healthcare professionals’ presence and its influence on healing outcomes for the patient and self. Emphasis will be placed on practical skills staff may use on an on-going basis for their patients and themselves. This presentation will provide an understanding of optimal wellness using the 13 Domains of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) as the foundation to reflect on different aspects of wellness.
