Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 20 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Sunday morning 21 July 2024, where it is mostly clear skies and 22 degrees Celsius at 5am.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.
In Rugby Union: The Flying Fijians versus the All Blacks clash in San Diego, California was effectively over by halftime yesterday, with the Kiwis leading 26-5 at the break after scoring four tries to one by Fiji.
The Kiwis scored another 21 unanswered points in the second half with Sevu Reece dotting down again for a 47-5 walk in the park at Snap Dragon Stadium, which did nothing for Fiji rugby.
Spain beat Tonga 20-29.
In Rugby League: The Broncos are back!
After a bruising ORIGIN III on Wednesday night, Broncos fullback, Reece Walsh was at his devastating attacking best, silencing a sold-out crowd that initially booed their Queensland Maroons star; by scoring a try, assisting two others and gave the Newcastle edge defence, nightmares all night, as he busted tackles with ease and contributed to six line breaks - the Knights simply couldn’t handle the Brisbane No.1.
Another turning point, was the calming influence of Adam Reynolds, orchestrating their attack and kicking excellently to guide the Broncos to a 30-14 much-needed first win in seven games, to keep their faint finals hopes alive.
In Football: Australian Ange Postecoglou is on the shortlist to be the next England Football Manager, replacing Gareth Southgate, after the Three Lions loss in the EURO2024 final in Berlin last weekend.
According to The Telegraph: “The Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach has been tracked by the Football Association for years. From Australia to Japan to Scotland and now in the Premier League.”
In SportsBiz: The NFL made nearly US$13Billion last season before any of their 32 teams sold a single ticket, hot dog, soda or beer.
That information comes from the only publicly owned NFL franchise – the Green Bay Packers release of their annual financial report, with the Packers reporting a US$60.1Million operating profit for the fiscal year ending 31 March, on the back of US$654M in total revenue, up roughly 7% on prior year.
The majority of that came from Green Bay’s share of national revenue that the NFL distributed equally among its franchises for the 2023 season @ US$402.3M.
In the Olympic Games: The Chinese Swimming Team has been drug-tested almost 200 times in 10 days after arriving in France for the Paris Olympic Games, a member of their support staff said in a since-deleted social media post.
Published on Weibo by China swimming team nutritionist Yu Liang, the post complained about the frequency and timing of anti-doping tests conducted by the International Testing Agency.
And that’s a wrap peeps!
