This Episode of Brevity Box is focused on the controversy surrounding Joe Rogan’s podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ and Spotify where The JRE is exclusive. It started with over 270 scientists, doctors, nurses, and other health professionals have signed a petition stating that “throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Joe Rogan has repeatedly spread misleading and false claims on his podcast, provoking distrust in science and medicine”, and called for Spotify to, “immediately establish a clear and public policy to moderate misinformation on its platform”, and led to Rock Legend Neil Young reacting by pulling his music from Spotify in protest and motivating a growing number of musicians to pull their music from Spotify too. Artist India Arie had more reason for protest, posting a montage on you tube showing that use of the N-word by Joe Rogan in multiple past episodes as a clear representation that it’s use is unacceptable regardless of context and worth the attention of any platform like Spotify to own the responsibility for a podcast made exclusive with a one hundred million dollars of their subscribers’ money.
Brando, Ccc and Mitch discuss the responsibilities of platforms for content they feature, a host’s influence over their audience and the responsibility they bare, as well as our own perspective as small ambitious podcasters. Being true to our method, we found ourselves laughing in between cerebral deep dives on the matter while Mitch brings the same insightful illumination that makes the ‘Ruminations From The Red Room’ an amazing podcast. Mitch lends us some of that magic and made this episode of Brevity Box insightful and entertaining.
