If you think someones else think’s you are smart, you will allow yourself to feel smart. But if you think someone else thinks your weak, you allow yourself to feel weak. We let what we think other people think of us, define the choices that we make on a daily basis.

Criticize - Critics are always super judgemental and will find something wrong with everyone they come accross. It challenges our sense of value which in turn, makes us feel insecure and not worthy. It implies judgement which creates anger and defensiveness.

Compare - Competitors are always complaining and trying to compare themselves with other people. They are always focusing on other people which puts focus on the wrong person when rather they should be looking inward at themselves. Comparing is energy sapping and leads to low self esteem.

Complain - Nothing will ever be right or good enough for them. They are always looking for reasons to find something wrong with anything. Complaining increases your level of cortisol which in turn leads to stress. Studies have shown for it to even cause damage to the brain.

Below are some tips to help you with low self esteem: Write a list of things you admire about yourself - It can be hard, but sit down and think about what good traits you have. Acknowledging your skills and likable traits can improve self-talk. Buy a journal and use it to reflect.

Stop being a people pleaser - People who have low self esteem try to please other people. They put others first before prioritizing their own mental health. These people are easily overwhealmed and it causes stress. Be kind and help others but put yourself first!

Step outside your comfort zone - Low self-esteem causes us to go back into our shells and avoid challenges and opportunities. Try something new, even if it may be difficult at first. By succeeding in something small, it can have a major boost of overall self-esteem and confidence.

Forgive yourself for any past thoughts - Your self-worth and the progress you make in life should not be connected to other people. It’s not easy at first, but staying away from social media is a massive step in the right direction. Remember people only share the best moments of their lives on social media. Detox and forgive yourself. Noone is perfect.

Celebrate your wins - Any win is a victory, no matter how small. Acknowledge those feelings or achievement and pride and, embrace them. This helps to grow self confidence and belief in oneself and in turn, improve self-esteem.

Let go of negative or toxic people - Holding onto toxic relationships prevents personal growth. Regret is associated with guilt and shame. All of which spark negativity. Learn to let go of the things in your past. This is your life and it is playing out exactly how it is meant to be.

Surround yourself with positive people - Build relationships with people around you who share the same ideas, goals and ambitions as you. Find people who are positive and appreciate you for who you are.

Take care of your body - Start exercising more regularly or try a new sport. Go for long walks and reflect on your wins. Start meditating and writing a journal. Sign up to a yoga class or start stretching. Fill your body with healthy foods and nutrients. Find a healthy routine that works for you and stick to it.

Use these tips to better yourself mentally and physically and watch your self-esteem flourish and improve your life. Negativity is contagious. Stay away from it! Hang in there, you’re not alone.
