Growing up in an Asian family can feel like you're starved for attention all the time. You can never get the same exact "love" that you see your non-Asian friends at school receive. But looking back, maybe there was love - we just didn't know how to see it at the time. While we were looking for words of praise or a close friend relationship with our parents, they showed their love in other ways. They obsessed about our academic ventures, worried over how much and when we ate, and - as we got older - constantly followed up with us about small life decisions. And while there were difficult moments growing up in this kind of love, we've found ways to shift our perspective on how our parents love us. As our parents grow older, and we (Angela) prepare to be parents ourselves, we continue to think about the lessons of love our parents gave us. What are some unique ways that your parents showed you love? Connect with us on social media and let us know!
