Happy Memorial Day! On today's episode, we discuss the significance of the original Roots series. Some callers discussed the allegations of plagiarism and other unsavory characteristics of Alex Haley, the author of the original Roots book, however we set the record straight about the importance of the series in giving a more accurate depiction of chattel slavery in the United States, especially at the time. We also discuss the important role that African Americans have played in the US military, serving in every war since the Revolutionary War, and how black people not only built this country through free labor, but helped to protect it as well, making the USA just as much our country as anyone else's. This is an information packed hour that you do not want to miss, so listen now! Originally aired 05/30/2016 on WOLB 1010 AM Baltimore. Tune in every Monday from 2pm -3pm.
