Key passage: Romans 6:3-4

The method: immersion

  • why?
    • It’s the regular practice hat we see in the New Testament, the apostolic age, and beyond.
    • It’s consistent with the meaning of the original word.
      • baptizo (Greek: ???????) – to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of sunken vessels); to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one’s self, bathe.
    • Immersed into Christ

It’s a clear identification with Jesus and his death and resurrection.

  • Romans 6:3-4

It displays the magnitude of Jesus’ work for us and in us.

  • Romans 5:8
  • Romans 6:6-7
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17

It shows the sufficiency of Jesus’ redemptive mission.

  • Romans 6:9-10
  • 1 Peter 3:18

It is a powerful reminder of the call to obedience

  • Romans 6:11
    • “consider” logizomai (Greek: ?????????) – to reckon, count, compute, calculate, count over.
  • Galatians 2:20
