On today’s show, Jared Yates Sexton joins me to discuss the implications of having Donald Trump as our president. Jared rose to public prominence while covering Trump’s rallies during the presidential campaign, and as a creative writing professor at Georgia Southern University, was able to describe these events in vivid, yet concise, tweets that captured Twitter’s attention. He wrote articles for the New York Times, New Republic, and Politico using a deeply personal narrative that resonated certainly with me, and countless others. This led to Jared authoring a book, titled The People Are Going TO rise like the waters upon your shore. He recounts the events of the campaign between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton through his eyes attending the various rallies and events, capturing one of the most fascinating and tumultuous times in our political history. It’s a testament to the quality of his wiring that it simultaneously makes you depressed while compelling you to continue reading page after page, to hopefully make peace and find answers. It’s a terrific book, into its 3rd printing already, and well worth the time.
