"The Gospel of Matthew … the book they chose to be first in our New Testament … it opens up with this genealogy of Jesus. And it’s a weird genealogy … on purpose, I think. • You see, Jesus didn’t track his family tree so he could “find himself.” That’s ludicrous! How could his “human ancestors” make the Son of God any more or less? • And … even though Jesus’ genealogy skips over some guys, it’s not the bad guys they leave out. In fact, the genealogy of Jesus is pretty much a rogue’s gallery, a collection of messed-up people… like you guys. • And … someone inserted all these ladies into the genealogy of Jesus! How scandalous was that! Especially since every one of the ladies in the family tree of Jesus had pretty scandalous stories … like some of you ladies. So, we’ve been tracking this “trail of grace” through the Old Testament story leading right to Jesus … whom the apostle John describes as 100% truth and 100% grace. And I am going to wrap up this fantastic story by focusing on one of the most boring passages in the Bible … the genealogy of Jesus. And maybe … maybe … if you’ll lean in anyway … perhaps you’ll discover things about Jesus that will change your life. So … here goes." Stephen "Doc" Pattison
