:31 Oregon Northwest Vapor Association day at the Capitol. Got to meet many folks in Oregon and attend a few meetings with legislators. Oregon has many bills and was last year able to defeat a tax bill but not an indoor vaping ban. But this year the tax bill is back a tax bill is rearing it's ugly head and it's a large tax. Licensing bills penalties are excessive. If a minor is sold a product the fines are for every person in the business and the owner can lose their license as well as be fined up to thousands of dollars. Tobacco 21 bill. 5:19 Washington State Tobacco 21 bills. They are in motion. 5:42 If anywhere in the country is liable to pass tobacco 21 this year it will be Washington and Oregon because of California and the West coast legislative trends. Their legislatures are controlled by people who think that's a good policy. 6:43 Arkansas bill SB 285 They have a short legislative session. Hearing postponed. Bills sponsor didn't show op for hearing so bill wasn't heard. Still a thing but it's being monitored by people on the ground. 8:52 Arizona Tax bill SB1517 Feedback from the call to action. People responded immediately and heard from their legislators it would never happen. It also elicited a very passionate response about a tobacco 21 bill. Arizona SFATA on top of this. 10:11 Kansas SB54 Changes how tax is applied to e liquid. Effort to change the tax to something lower. Headed for hearing on FEBRUARY 14 SB130 A competing bill that clarifies but it is not something we should support 12:10 Maryland Online sales ban. Companion bill in house. Indoor vaping ban and tobacco 21 bill. Not a lot of support for any of these. 12:52 HB New Hampshire 13:31 Forsyth County Georgia 50 Dollar permit no mixing liquid in stores. No vaping in stores unless the stores have a dehumidifier to dispel the mist. 15:49 Vermont Vapor Facing at least fifty thousand dollars in fines. This action is NOT F.D.A. enforcement. Their page was listed as a smoking cessation service. The law prohibits truthful cessation claims. The F.D.A. first seizures were because of marketing claims. This is the reason CASAA exists. The Vermont Attorney General is the one filing this not the F.D.A. 21:11 Hawaii A dizzying process of legislation and committee hearings. Looks like they are looking at a tax bill again. The state association has been doing a great job of taking action and showing up to hearings. 24:05 Battery safety in electronic nicotine delivery systems FDA workshop and requests for public comment. April 19-20 8:30 am - 4:30 pm We don't know if we will send anyone but we are certainly going to try. A bit on the new CASAA battery case and the CASAA battery safety guidance. http://casaa.org/news/battery-safety-announce/ Personal stories about batteries venting. 80% of battery failures happen while charging. 29:57 The best outcome could be for FDA to produce a battery safety campaign since they have the resources to do that and reach a large portion of the population. They could make a very impactful safety spot. 31:24 ALA gave New York state a failing grade in reducing tobacco use. That grade is strictly for funding Anti_tobacco programs. NYS has highest tobacco tax in the country. They get a B for that. The Laffer curve has happened here or so it seems. Over half the cigarettes sold in New York are black/grey market. Even though they have tobacco 21 policy's in place in many counties young people still continue smoking. With the black market nobody is checking I.D. 38:16 Pennsylvania sponsor support memos for bills to reduce the tax on e liquid. Putting a finishing touches on a CTA for support for those bills.
