The Miami Heat, which made the NBA Finals once and the Eastern Conference Finals once in the past three season, have never been a serious title contender in many discussions. They had first-class defense and the ability to drag any opponent to six or even seven games in a series, but when the game reached the point of win or go home, the Heat lacked the ability to wrap it up. Jimmy Butler was able to play that role occasionally, but he was held back by his age, injuries and the heavy load on his shoulders. As the team's second- and third-best performing players, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro so far have not given anyone enough reasons to believe that either of them can grow to be the Heat's go-to guy.
