Episode 236: Coach Mike Griggs (Founder of Georgia Basketball Academy) Monroe, GA ("Positive Player Development")
Manage episode 288878219 series 2425128
My speciality is developing highly efficient scorers through high percentage shooting, decision-making, and shot selection. The kids that work with me consistently shoot 40%+ 3's and 80%+ FT's in games. The past and current Gwinnett County Public School 3pt career record holders have been girls that worked with me. I'm not a "workout" guy. I'm more concerned about quality than quantity. I conduct private sessions as well as small groups. The typical group size is 2-4 kids and I don't go over 6 in a session. I limit the total number of kids admitted to the Academy. Each player must be at least a rising 7th grader and go through an evaluation before admittance. I typically have a waiting list from April until October.
I will also conduct shooting/development programs for teams at their schools. I don't conduct short-term shooting clinics for players/teams. My philosophy is it takes more time for kids to truly learn and transfer. Under the GPPA, I conduct individual and team programs to help with the mental side: confidence, anxieties, fears, etc.
I have a strong relationship with coaches, parents, and players and that is why I stay full without any social media or advertising.
Coaches consistently refer their players to me and I keep them up to date on their development as well as what areas of their game they need to focus. If a player comes that wasn't referred by the coach, I will contact the coach to let them know and see how I can best serve them and their player.
