Growing up in East St. Louis, Mike had two choices - accept the adversity he faced, or remove himself from it and try to make it on his own. Mike chose the latter, and it didn't come easy. Mike was calculated in the decisions he made and conscious of the people surrounded himself with. Was it luck; Was it timing; Was it serendipity; Or was it grit? In the last few weeks of high-school, Mike didn't know what he was going to do after graduation. With little time left to apply, he submitted an application to a college in Arkansas.
