We have a special guest today. Cynane Shay is here to talk about her book 'Taking off the Tin Foil Hat.' A book about her deconstruction and the conspiracy's surrounding covid that started it all. How much do you know about Lizard People? The Flat Earth? The impending resurrection of John F. Kennedy? Well buckle up, you're about to be an expert.
(Rachael takes a brief moment to tell us about her haunted house, so apparently we are a ghost podcast now)
Cynane has a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Florida. Now 30, she is a civilian contractor in the United States Navy's Nuclear Propulsion Training Program. Think Kelly McGillis from Top Gun, but with submarines instead of fighter jets.

Growing up, conspiracy theories were normalized in her IBLP-cult influenced community. But 2020, with COVID, Trump, and Qanon, forced her to realize this was a broader evangelical problem that affected more than just her rapture-obsessed family.

Since then, Cynane has followed her friends and family down the rabbit hole, deconstructed from white Christian nationalism, and tried to document the process in her upcoming memoir: Taking Off the Tinfoil Hat: How Space Lasers and Lizard People Dismantled my Christian Worldview.
