We wanted to let you know that we’ve been closely following the Nostalrius discussion and we appreciate your constructive thoughts and suggestions.
Our silence on this subject definitely doesn’t reflect our level of engagement and passion around this topic. We hear you. Many of us across Blizzard and the WoW Dev team have been passionate players ever since classic WoW. In fact, I personally work at Blizzard because of my love for classic WoW.

We have been discussing classic servers for years - it’s a topic every BlizzCon - and especially over the past few weeks. From active internal team discussions to after-hours meetings with leadership, this subject has been highly debated. Some of our current thoughts:

Why not just let Nostalrius continue the way it was? The honest answer is, failure to protect against intellectual property infringement would damage Blizzard’s rights. This applies to anything that uses WoW’s IP, including unofficial servers. And while we’ve looked into the possibility – there is not a clear legal path to protect Blizzard’s IP and grant an operating license to a pirate server.

We explored options for developing classic servers and none could be executed without great difficulty. If we could push a button and all of this would be created, we would. However, there are tremendous operational challenges to integrating classic servers, not to mention the ongoing support of multiple live versions for every aspect of WoW.
So what can we do to capture that nostalgia of when WoW first launched? Over the years we have talked about a “pristine realm”. In essence that would turn off all leveling acceleration including character transfers, heirloom gear, character boosts, Recruit-A-Friend bonuses, WoW Token, and access to cross realm zones, as well as group finder. We aren’t sure whether this version of a clean slate is something that would appeal to the community and it’s still an open topic of discussion.
One other note - we’ve recently been in contact with some of the folks who operated Nostalrius. They obviously care deeply about the game, and we look forward to more conversations with them in the coming weeks.
You, the Blizzard community, are the most dedicated, passionate players out there. We thank you for your constructive thoughts and suggestions. We are listening.

A few Key Points From the interview gather by wowhead:

• Orcs had to move in certain ways, so the actors went to a month-long orc camp!

• The film is a good starting point for the Lore of WoW, but as a minor disclaimer–there are some moments that are different (eg Garona as half-human).

• As a filmmaker, Duncan Jones tried to fit in extra material and easter eggs that fans would appreciate which wouldn’t distract from the overall story. It was a unique challenge that he enjoyed.

• Duncan Jones lucked out on joining the film project when it had movement. He remembers seeing the original script and being upset that it was “human heroes” vs. “orc villains” and he could see why Blizzard pulled the reins on that story line. He wanted to show the heroes on all sides and thinks Chris Metzen was happy with this.

• No word if in-game items are coming with a movie ticket purchase.

The New Standard

Standard is a new format in Play mode that allows players to go head-to-head using only the most recently released Hearthstone cards. You’ll play Standard using a deck built solely from a pool of cards that were released in the current and previous calendar year, along with a core foundation of the Basic and Classic card sets (which will always be valid for Standard). You’ll be matched against other players who are also using Standard decks

Standard promises a fresher Hearthstone experience!

• Standard will help make for a more dynamic and balanced metagame.

• A select set of cards makes each new card have more impact!

• The developers will have more freedom to design exciting new cards.

• It lets newer players jump in faster without having to collect as many cards.

Standard is only available as a format in Friendly Challenges, Ranked, and Casual play, so it won’t affect Arena, Solo play, or Adventures.

Working on my DK, she is now in Pandaria.. Slow and steady. Leveled through Cataclysm entirely in Hyjal, which is crazy. It was only 3 hours of game play. Kinda crazy how quickly it can go. I typically level through Vashj’ir so it was nice to see a different perspective again. I really enjoyed it. I was kinda sad to move on. Once I get her to 100 have to chose who to level next. Not sure who yet.

Opened up Hearthstone and got my 3 free packs, I will try to get my other two as well. Looking forward to trying the new standard, but I know i’m gunna suck at it.
