Genesis 25:29-34 GOD’S WILL BE DONE VS OUR WILL BE DONE29 When Jacob had cooked a stew one day, Esau came in from the field and he was exhausted; 30 and Esau said to Jacob, “Please let me have a mouthful of that red stuff there, for I am exhausted.” Therefore he was called Edom by name. 31 But Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.” 32 Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?” 33 And Jacob said, “First swear to me”; so he swore an oath to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and got up and went on his way. So Esau despised his birthright. Matthew 1:2 GOD USES BROKEN PEOPLE OF FAITHAbraham fathered Isaac, Isaac fathered Jacob, and Jacob fathered Judah and his brothers. Romans 9:10-13 GOD KNOWS AND JUDGES THE FUTURE10 And not only that, but there was also Rebekah, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; 11 for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls, 12 it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger.” 13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” Hebrews 12:15-17 CONSIDERING YOUR BODY AS MORE IMPORTANT THE GOD’S WILL15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; 16 that there be no sexually immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that even afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears. Temptation and the Destructive Work of Satan: 1. Satan takes advantage of us when we are physically and mentally exhausted. 2. Satan takes advantage of us when we are afraid. 3. Satan takes advantage of us when we are angry. 4. Satan takes advantage of us by creating doubt in God’s Word and by telling us lies. 5. Satan takes advantage of us when we are alone. 6. Satan takes advantage of us when we feel abused and abandoned. 7. Satan takes advantage of us when we are full of pride. 8. Satan takes advantage of our weaknesses. 9. Satan takes advantage of us when we are bitter. 10. Satan takes advantage of us by corrupting the good things of God. See Matt 6:13; John 14:30; 1 Cor 10:13; 2 Cor 2:11; James 1:13-15; 2 Peter 2:9; 1 John 2:15-17; 5:18.
