Lewis begins a new Christchurch Wednesdays series ‘Questions People Ask’; starting with the deeply personal issue of pain and suffering. For many of those around us, the issue of suffering is a mountain too high to climb when it comes to believing in God. Many of us have been asked the question ‘if he exists, then why..?’, with the sentence ending in such tragic description that we can but silently gulp and offer nothing in response. What do we say to the face of pain and suffering? In his word, God gives us an answer. In fact, he gives many answers. This is very reassuring. This is the response of a God who understands the complexities of life and circumstances. Here Lewis talks about God’s many answers to the question of suffering.
