This week on Christories, we're talking about the THE LAST KING OF FRANCE!!! π Louis XVI reigned as King of France from 1774 to 1792. His rule was marked by financial crises, attempts at reform, and increasing public discontent. Despite efforts to modernize the administration and economy, he faced opposition from the nobility and was unable to resolve France's fiscal problems. His indecisiveness and resistance to radical change fueled revolutionary sentiments. The French Revolution erupted in 1789, leading to the monarchy's downfall. Louis XVI was eventually arrested, tried for treason, and executed by guillotine in 1793.
