Public speaking is the topic of discussion on this episode of Cigars and Sea Stories.

Public speaking is the number one fear for the majority of people, which is understandable. Speaking to an audience can be downright nerve racking. The thought of being singled out with the spotlight blaring on you. Cotton mouth, sweaty palms, pit stains. It’s natural. For those of us who pursue public speaking, it’s all of these feelings (that everyone gets), which truly heightens the thrill. The ability to remain calm in the moment and stay focused under pressure while training a skill or conveying a message. Poise and discipline, are hallmark characteristics of the warrior. The military does an excellent job training service members in the art of instruction; public speaking is the first step toward becoming a proficient instructor. Those same speaking skills apply in the classroom and behind the podium. -- So when you’re sitting in speech class, feeling like Billy Madison, remember those sniveling little shits sitting next to you don’t know their ass from a hole in the wall. Get up there and show ‘em how it’s done!

Our stories of service are unique to our own experiences. Cigars and Sea Stories encourages all veterans to share their stories of time in service.
