Principles of small arms is the topic on this episode of Cigars and Sea Stories featuring Bennett Tanton and Michael J. Penney. The guys are both skilled marksmen with a heavy interest in firearms. Mike has to take it one step further by going full bore gun nerd!

The principles of small arms, or POSA, is taught at the small arms weapons/foreign weapons instructors course aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Students are taught how to qualify using foreign firearms per the standard set forth by the department of defense. The school trains operators from a variety of different MOSs how to handle, fire, and destroy threat weapons used by the enemy.

This episode covers the basic types of small arms ranging from handguns to grenade launchers, and covers the basic components of a cartridge or round; comprised of bullet, casing and primer. It’s gun nerd talk, and it should be shared with anyone who really doesn’t get why we treat weapons as ‘tools of the trade’. Each gun, each projectile, the powder, and various primers all work in different ways depending on the assembly of the firearm. There capabilities and limitations are tested on the range, in the shoot house, or walking afield. Each firearm fits a different scenario but many different firearms can all be lumped into a single category...that can then be made illegal.

Oh an “Assault Rifle” is a military term being used against gun owners. Tricky devils.

Listen to the episode and share your own comments at cigarsandseastories.com. We want to know how you use your guns. What’s your favorite hunting story? Maybe you and the buddies were shooting clays outta the sky with your handguns (true story), whatever it is, we want to hear about it.

Thank you for listening to Cigars and Sea Stories! Keep sharing with the world...
