Hi! My name is Lee Ashcroft. I am a recovering addict and alcoholic and I am starting a nonprofit. The project will be focused around children and has the following mission statement:
“To give children, from a young age up to college age, the skills and knowledge to cope with life in healthy ways. We will do this through lessons in meditation, self-awareness, the genetics and science behind addiction and mental health issues, and through strengthening the belief in them that talking about their issues is both healthy and ok. We will also work with parents and educators to advocate the inclusion of such lessons into core school curricula."
We teach kids in our schools algebra, calculus, cooking... but we do not teach them life skills such as dealing with trauma, depression, loss, addiction and mental illness. I believe we are missing the beat here. We should be including these things in schools and we are on a mission to make that happen.
