Ashley Hollern is an experienced teacher, educational technology expert, and STEM professional. She is also the Founder of Authentic Exploration Matters. She has taken a stance on teaching educators how to weave up-to-date climate science and solutions into curriculums to arm the current generation of youth to be aware of the climate problem that will challenge their future. She encourages them all to think about how they can be part of the solution.

As the climate crisis gets increasingly urgent, young people have become more aware of the need for action. Gen Z Alphas and Gen Alpha students have so much information at their fingertips, so it is becoming more difficult to teach by telling them things. Instead, teachers should pose conundrums and questions, urging students to use the resources around them to find solutions. They can also teach by motivating these students to take action on social change issues. Ashley Hollern discusses how you can get students interested in climate issues and empower them to become change agents as individuals, in their communities, and as global citizens.

In this episode, Ashley discusses:

  • The teaching and learning styles that are most effective with Gen Z and Gen Alpha students

  • Methods for parents and teachers to get students interested, engaged, and involved in climate topics

  • The different actions students can take once they get involved in climate topics
