In episode 90, DJ Shannon chats with Karlala Soundsystem, a fixture in NYC's dance scene. Starting his journey in California's house music and rave scene as a teen, Karlala launched his first mobile sound system at 15 to uplift his community.
During the pandemic, he pioneered a sustainable sound system equipped with a large battery pack, enabling Sweet Kicks, his mobile party concept, to thrive. Today, Karlala goes beyond music, fostering community, joy, and empowerment through sound at multiple events throughout the city.
In the winter, Shannon spoke to Karlala about his upbringing, growing up in the Bay and attending raves at the age of 14, and what it's been like to travel with his unique sound system across the U.S. He also spoke about his latest upgrade to the sound system which is sure to blow party-goers away this summer.
