Part 2/2: Later in the week, Ashleigh attends the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards Gala and plucks up the courage to talk to some Canadian coach celebrities about their heroes and what they value about coaches. This is as about as coach-nerdy as it gets, folks.

Special thanks to:

The Coaching Association of Canada for hosting another excellent weekend of professional development and networking!

Our special guests tonight:

Danielle Emmons, Basketball Canada

Jeff Stoughton, Two-time World Champion, Curling Canada

Gerry Peckham, High Performance Director with Curling Canada

Rob Kober, Coach of the Year, Freestyle Canada

Benoît Huot, 9-time Paralympic Champion (Swimming Canada) and Master of Ceremonies

Greg Henhawk, Coach Developer, Coaches Association of Canada

Nova Browning Rutherford, National Speakers Bureau

Allison Sandmeyer-Graves, CEO CAAWS

Lorraine Lafrenière, CEO Coaching Association of Canada

Jeremy Cross, Executive Director, Coaches Association of Ontario

Special shout-out to my middle school, École Viscount Alexander in Winnipeg, MB. When I was in the 7th grade, I listened to Jeff Stoughton speak at our athletic banquet about growing up in Fort Gary and attending ÉVA thirty years before I did, and how his experiences at our middle school helped to shape him as an Olympian. To the student of ÉVA, keep your mind and eyes open, and pay attention in class. I was forced to make a mock radio show in grade 8 French, and I thought it was the most useless project ever. Today, I interviewed a Paralympian, an Olympic coach, many of Canada’s sport leaders, and a fellow ÉVA alumni. You never know where life is going to go, so be ready for anything.
