Hello again for those who previously had a listen to the previous Episode (/code-for-good-episode-1#content) I hope you're finding these interviews useful in some ways and if at all entertaining. I am sure having fun with my guests just recording our thoughts and experiences in this crazy city of Hong Kong. My interviewee today is a Front-End Developer who is, unlike the mono-typical image of a programmer, not shy at all to meet and greet with people of all backgrounds. Charis Rooda She hails from the Netherlands and is working on multiple projects, I went to meet up with the bubbly and filled-with-life programmer at the Hive, KTown for a quick but meaningful chat. Why does Charis Rooda code? "Because being bored kind of sucks." After we went through what Charis does in her work days, which includes dealing with clients, UI/UX people, getting the specifications for current and potential projects, then finally working with people across timelines on a singular vision. Not an easy-sounding 9-to-5 is it? Let's talk about off-work days too then, which includes setting up Conferences such as WebConf and CodeConf, Meetups with all of Hong Kong Coders where I first met her and other hangouts with like-minded people buried in the technology underworld of Hong Kong, I just had to ask her, why she was spending ungodly amount of hours on these projects killing herself to make it succeed. And I could not agree more with her answer. How many hours do you spend on the conferences that you help organize? (Currently CodeConf) "The bigger thing I've been doing is organising WebConf.asia that took... I kind of did the maths and sometimes I tell people that I spent 400 hours on this project, but it might actually be 600 hours" With this kind of high energy, it is no wonder why Charis' conferences and meetups are always filled with interesting people. You can find out more about such meetups at Codeaholics Slack Group Make sure to listen to our conversation above!
