Today’s show, with guest Roslyn Whitney, goes deep examining stress and stress management in the legal profession, including zero cost tools to recenter instantaneously in the heat of courtroom battle (a hint – it involves breathing) and keep one happy and focused in a combative and adversarial career. I first came to know Roslyn when she was recommended by a close lawyer friend. My daughter, four at the time, had been through a year of chemotherapy, radiation, surgical lung resection, and had a one in three survival chance. While our daughter was done with treatment, treatment wasn’t done with me. I found myself occasionally overwhelmed with emotion – the technical term is emotional incontinence – which posed a challenge for a trial lawyer. I’m pleased to say our daughter is now ten and healthy, and I’ve worked through my multilayered demons with Roslyn’s help.

As a consultant, counselor and thought leader, Roslyn Whitney, MS, brings a wealth of experience to the legal community. Her unique blend of counseling, coaching, and forward thinking, combined with her pioneering work in substance abuse prevention, makes her an invaluable ally to legal professionals dedicated to fostering resilience, promoting justice, and supporting recovery in their personal and professional endeavors.

Roslyn’s back story is fascinating, and we’ll get into what brought her to where she is today. Some foreshadowing: she’s talked people down in detox tents at rock festivals, established the first drug and alcohol treatment program for the 101st Airborne, developed training protocols for rape crisis center volunteers, and has explored the human potential movement, including walking across hot coals. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. For more about Roslyn Whitney, go to: https://www.roswhitney.com/
