For the first episode of our series of interviews on making history and its different outlets, we welcome Joana Bouza Serrano. Now living in the Netherlands, Joana is a teacher and researcher in History, specifically on Early Modern Portuguese History (15th-18th centuries). Passionate about this period in history, Joana’s research aims to shed light on female voices and their trajectories, bringing them center stage - as they should always have been, we might add! With two published books, one about the Duchess of Mantua (1598-1655) and the other about the Avis, the queens that graced Portugal throughout its second dynasty (1385-1589, covering 200 years of Portuguese history.

It was a privilege to sit with Joana and discover the challenges and joys of researching and writing the history of women throughout the centuries and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we did. Tune in to listen now.
