No doubt many reporters would like to have done the work Parry did: first reporter to reveal Oliver North’s operation in the White House basement, co-author of the first report on Contra drug-smuggling. Far fewer are willing to face the costs that actual independence incurs. A deep believer in journalism, Parry found corporate media uncongenial for truly speaking truth to power, and he left it, and its status and access, to build the independent outlet, Consortium News.
