"...none of us got enough love in our childhood. And that's showbiz, kid." - Roxy Hart from the musical *Chicago*
The need for acceptance and validation is a common struggle among creatives and extends to broader human experiences. What we didn't receive in our earliest years can often become the exact thing we seek out the most throughout our lives.
True creativity involves being vulnerable and authentic, sharing your genuine self with the world without being overly concerned about others' judgments. This is no small feat! Tapping into childlike wonder and working through inner child issues can unlock deeper levels of creativity and authenticity in your art.
We can't read our labels from inside the jar! We need healthy, safe, constructive validation and feedback, from trusted friends and mentors, in life and in business. This can help drive us forward and re-ignite our passion and dedication.
Creativity often involves expressing life experiences through various mediums, acting as a metaphor that conveys deeper truths and emotions. I do believe that is our mission as artists to bring more beauty and inspiration into the world.
Incorporating regular creative practices, such as journaling (morning pages from *The Artist’s Way*), can help clear mental blocks and open up new creative channels. Persistence is key. It can take time to receive external validation, and creatives must learn to self-source motivation and stay committed to their vision.
Guest Mentions:
- Taryn, host of the podcast *Memes, Metaphors, and Magic*, discussed the metaphorical nature of art in Episode 2
- Matt Verba, author of *Funeral Theory*, highlighted the importance of genuine communication and not leaving things unsaid in Episode 12
