Dr Rachel Nowak wanted to be a farmer. She studied agricultural science, then fell in love with research and recognised that a lot of great research never made it out into the world, to become really useful and have an impact on our lives. So she set about changing that, becoming an award-winning investigative journalist. Now, as Director, Research Marketing and Communications at the University of Melbourne, Dr Nowak and her team work across multiple functions to embed research communication and marketing strategies that will get research knowledge, IP, capabilities and expertise into the hands, minds and businesses of all those people who can use them for financial and cultural benefit, or to improve human or environmental health.

In this episode of Culture Makers we talk about the simple power of a good introduction, why perfect is not the goal, and how Rachel goes about building diverse and supportive teams.
