This week we're talking ALL THING BANNED BOOKS.. STARTING WITH 1984.
"1984" by George Orwell is a dystopian novel set in a totalitarian future where the state, represented by the Party and its leader Big Brother, exercises complete control over its citizens. The protagonist, Winston Smith, works at the Ministry of Truth, where he alters historical records to fit the Party's propaganda. He becomes disillusioned with the regime and secretly rebels against it, embarking on a forbidden romance with Julia.

The society in "1984" is characterized by constant surveillance, public mind control, and the repression of any individual thought, symbolized by the Thought Police. The Party's three slogans, "War is Peace," "Freedom is Slavery," and "Ignorance is Strength," epitomize the regime's use of contradictory concepts to manipulate reality.

As Winston's rebellion grows, he and Julia are eventually caught and subjected to brutal psychological and physical torture at the Ministry of Love. The novel culminates in Winston's complete submission to the Party's power, signifying the total loss of individual freedom and the triumph of totalitarian control.

The book explores themes of totalitarianism, surveillance, censorship, and the corruption of language to control thought, serving as a warning against the dangers of unchecked political power and the erosion of individual liberties.

But why was it banned...?? Communism? Sex?
And who would inspire such a morbid view of the world??
We discuss it all this week!
Read books and have the day you deserve!
Cheers,
