If you’re one of the billions of people using Facebook or Instagram, your personal data is likely being used to train the artificial intelligence systems of their parent company, Meta. Meta says it’s only following the lead of Google and OpenAI, two companies that also use the technology to train their generative AI systems. This training isn’t likely to single out individuals for any specific action, but your data – apart from chats between individuals and content from those under 18 years old – will be assimilated into training models and you can’t opt out. So, if your pages have sensitive or personal content, you may want to review and remove anything you wouldn’t want to potentially be made available to generative AI users down the track. Data scraping has become hard to avoid – earlier this year, Consumer Reports research found that Facebook was vacuuming up user data from an average of 2230 companies each – but at least by being aware of what’s happening, you can act early to reduce your exposure to its effects. The 60-second "Security Nudge" is brought to you by CybSafe, developers of the Human Risk Management Platform. Learn more at https://cybsafe.com
