You install them at your home to keep you safe, but did you know that many smart home devices come with built-in vulnerabilities that hackers regularly exploit to watch you come and go from your home? A recent Consumer Reports study found that video doorbells with two brand names, Eken and Tuck, were vulnerable to being hacked. In tests, a Consumer Reports security specialist was able to log onto the cameras from the other side of the country, then download images that showed the user’s deck and backyard. The researchers found at least 10 other similar products sold under different names – but all of them used the same app and turned out to be rebranded versions of the same insecure product.
