Your company may or may not have been impacted by the recent major technology outage, in which a faulty software update by security firm Crowdstrike crashed millions of computers in office buildings, airports, supermarkets, and other businesses worldwide. Even as IT staff were fighting to restore services, authorities were warning workers to be extra vigilant for unsolicited contact from scammers. If you get contacted by someone claiming that your system has been damaged in the recent outage, and demanding payment, banking details, passwords, or access to your computer to fix the problem, don’t engage with them. Just hang up. If you get an email prompting you to click on a link, or to enter your details into a web page for assistance with the Crowdstrike incident, don’t. Just delete it. However badly the incident affected your company, your IT team will be handling it. As always, contact them directly if you want to confirm whether any suspect scam call is legitimate.
