Getting excited for this year’s Summer Olympics in Paris? So are the cyber criminals. Every time there’s a major sporting event, cybersecurity experts observe a surge in cyber attacks and scams during the runup to the event – and this year is no different, with French authorities recently reporting that they had identified 44 fraudulent sites claiming to sell tickets for the Games. Whether you’re planning on attending the Olympics or will stay home to watch them on TV – be on high alert for scams in coming weeks as cyber criminals flood the internet with emails, text messages, social media DMs, and advertisements related to the Games. It’s not all about stealing money by selling fake tickets: expect fraudsters to also use the lure of Olympics merchandise, travel packages, gossip about high-profile teams, supposed insider reports, and anything else they can think of to get you to click through. As always, be vigilant. To win your own gold medal in cybersecurity, stick to reliable news sites and official ticketing or merchandise sites; figure out in advance how you can watch the Games safely, and – when in doubt about the truth of a new message – seek out the information independently to see if it can be verified by a reputable source. The 60-second "Security Nudge" is brought to you by CybSafe, developers of the Human Risk Management Platform. Learn more at https://cybsafe.com
