We (finally) get to Morning Prayer, the fourth and final of our office services. In this episode we cover the first part of the service of Morning Prayer, which gets us from the opening of the liturgy through the psalms.

The major thing to learn in this episode is the Invitatory with its Antiphons. The Invitatory is simply the invitation psalm, which is a fairly stable or fixed psalm that acts as a call to prayer and praise. Classically Psalm 95 is the invitatory. In the prayer book we have two and a half choices:

  • The Venite (“ven-EE-tay”) which is psalm 95:1-7
  • The Jubilate (“joo-bill-AH-tay”) which is psalm 100
  • The Christ our Passover, or Pascha nostrum, used only in Easter-tide.
