Uncomfortable is where my biggest growth happens.
It’s the icky, “f**k this is hard,” messy, change provoking work.
You see, I used to be a people pleaser. I would fill up my calendar doing things I didn’t want to do, because I felt bad saying no.
I had to get uncomfortable.
Starting to turn down things that didn’t align with my life and my goals was hard. But it’s like exercising a muscle. It got easier and easier the more I did it.
I learned that, it’s in our ability and acceptance of things being messy and uncomfortable, that we find freedom.
In episode #139 of the Dance Boss Podcast, I have a great conversation with Jennifer Aks-Neuman, founder of dance herStory, a collection of video diaries that help Womxn move life stories through their bodies with gestures instead of writing.
We dive into:
- My experience going through the video diary process
- Having the willingness to be messy and uncomfortable
- And using movement and creativity to help us through emotions
