In Quebec, the turlutte is a form of traditional popular song, which is associated with specific melody It is more accurately characterized as a song or vocal style in the French chanson tradition based on the Quebec and Irish folk traditions. Mary is considered an expert turlutte.
La Bolduc has had a definite influence on the evolution of the chanson in Quebec and, though she has had many imitators, she has had no equals.
