In John 1, the evangelist presents us with extraordinary visions of the transcendent and incarnate Christ. Laced throughout John's portrayal is the unspoken but unmistakable presence of divine love as witnessed in heaven and especially in God's presence on earth. This 'light shining in earthly darkness' is especially poignant and gripping in the wake of the slaughter of innocents at the school shootings in Newtown, CT.
