Welcome everyone! If you're back joining us, thank you so much for your loyalty to our show and if your new then thank you for giving our a podcast a chance!

Today's topic was a suggestion from a "Deep Thoughts w/the Dixons" listener! Oddly enough, the night before this was recorded Nina had a terrible experience with overthinking only to wake up the next day and realize the podcast she has to record on is about OVERTHINKING and being over analytical.

There are two types:

  1. Over analytical, over thinker leading to analysis paralysis
  2. Stuck in a cycle of worrying about something that will probably never happen

For the Over Analytical/Over-thinker:

10 steps to snap out of it for GOOD!

  1. Stop waiting for perfection
  2. Don't assume
  3. Be more proactive; do stuff
  4. Ask yourself the right type of questions
  5. Have a sounding board
  6. Create a plan and totally commit to it
  7. Stop rationalizing, justifying or explaining to others why you are not doing something
  8. Keep a success diary
  9. Get out of your thoughts- meditate
  10. Have a safe word!- when you catch yourself loosing yourself in your thoughts, snap out of it and yell something out loud to yourself. For example "stop thinking so negatively!" or "stop making up shit in your head!" or "knock it off this isn't helping you!

For the Worry Wort Stuck in A Worry Cycle:

1 step to snap out of it for GOOD!

  1. Be OKAY with uncertainty and force yourself to just be. Sometimes life throw us curveballs and as much as we want to control the narrative, or outcome we just can't. We are more likely than not being forced to just be okay with not knowing how something is or will be. This is helping us relinquish control and trust in something greater than us. Take solace in the fact that whatever happens you will be well equipped to handle it. Sit with uncertainty and not knowing long enough and you'll realize you don't have to be at the beckoning call of your rampant thoughts making up scenarios/problems that aren't even going to happen.

Books:

  1. "Rewire Your Anxious Brain" by Catherine M Pittman
  2. "The Storm Inside" by Sheila Walsh
  3. "Overthinking" by Robert Leary

Quote: "Overthinking, the art of creating problems that weren't even there"
