What fashion obsession do Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Jay-Z have in common? It’s not hard to see why the biggest fashion icons in the music industry are patrons and fans of RVS Eyewear. Artist and designer Vidal Erkohen stand out as a true original in eyewear design. As a lover of vintage optical frames (he has an impressive collection of vintage Persols and his fascination with vintage frames as a child launched his entry into the industry), he doesn’t draw from the classics as much as he draws from the spirit of vintage frames – the irreverence and freedom of fashion that revolutionized the industry in the 60s and 70s. One of his most iconic frame designs, the Paris, was inspired by a flea market find of the miniature glasses worn by a 1950s Barbie doll. The quirky, innovative, and detail-oriented frames are made not just to be fan favorites today, but to be the collectables of a future generation of eyewear lovers!
Founding in 2007, RVS Eyewear first launched through luxury eyewear retailer Selima Optique in New York and Paris. Now they have their own flagship location at 312 Bowery in NYC, an optical meets art-house collision of fashion, eyewear, and culture. We were honored to sit down with Vidal at Vision Expo East to see his new collection first hand, and his inspiration of wearable has never been so vivid!
