Die Stadt Jena ist einer der Modellstädte im Rahmen des Projektes Smart Cities geworden. Dadurch bekommt sie 17,5 Millionen Euro an Fördergeldern, die nun in fünf Handlungsfeldern umgesetzt werden sollen (die Teilprojekte Wissensallmende, Smartes Quartier Jena Lobeda, Lernräume der Zukunft - Digitales Lernen für alle, Smart City Logistik, eGovernment++).
