Stories & Symbols: Refugee Voices
Manage episode 355380753 series 3289227
In Term 4 2022, MYP 3 students took part in an interdisciplinary unit (IDU) between Language & Literature (LL) and Individuals and Societies (IAS). The unit titled, "Refugees & Political Crises" centered around Alan Gratz's novel Refugee. The novel follows three fictional children, fleeing very real historic circumstances happening across history in Germany, Cuba, and Syria. Using their attained knowledge from historical time periods, aspects of the novel, and creative thinking skills, students designed and created symbolic products to be used to spread a message to the world about migrants and refugees in need. Their final assessment piece was inspired by The Walk Productions and their famous Little Amal puppet (https://www.walkwithamal.org/).
This podcast episode features an explanation of the unit, the assessment purpose, and a few final speeches completed by students sharing their learning, inspiration, and creations (symbolic products).
