Here’s a hour of indie-funk and nu disco for butt-wigglin’ through the Easter break. Dont’ be put off if you were hoping for some house tunes.... you’ll love this :-) It’s one of two sessions I’ve had on the backburner for a while, hence the tunes being cherry-picked from the past year or so. This mix is quite upbeat, there’s another to come that’s deeper and more spaced out.
We start with Beth Ditto’s reflective vocal on Cruel Intentions, cut up here by The Edit Master himself, Greg Wilson. LCD Soundsystem take us into orbit with Padded Cell’s funk-chugging take on 45:33. Other highlights include a spacey disco groove by Curses!, a Crazy P track dropped by Unabombers at Big Chill 09, electronic disco from Lifelike, Chris Menace and even the Pet Shop Boys beefed up by Trentemøller.
And of course, two iPod favourites of last month: the best track from New Young Pony Club’s slightly disappointing second album, and the Talking-Heads-on-M-Kat ripper, High Pressure Days by The Units, a top track I discovered on a Mixmag covermount CD mixed by Mylo. Enjoy!
