Unnatural Selection: Cut Paste Life and Germ-Line Engineering
Manage episode 379313528 series 3478409
Today I riff on Episode 1 of Netflix's documentary series Unnatural Selection. Gene-editing technologies promise to eliminate diseases, and biohackers push for access while scientists grapple with formidable ethical questions. Where are the labs located that are doing this kind of research? What are some ethical concerns? Can we mix the bio luminescence from jelly fish and add it to a dog just for fun and fashion? If so are there any side effects? Can we edit our DNA to be able to live in outer space easier? If so, what happens when we start to edit the DNA of humans, plants and animals permanently?
